MarketCheck Privacy Notice
This notice explains what personal information MarketCheck collects through marketcheck.com, how we use and share it, and the rights and choices you have. It is a disclosure of our practices. It is not a contract, and you are not asked to agree to it.
Find your region: United States · Canada · United Kingdom · European Economic Area. The sections above them apply to everyone.
1. Who we are
MarketCheck provides automotive inventory data, APIs, data feeds and reports.
Market Check Cars, Inc., head office 68 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201, United States, is the controller and the business responsible for the personal information described in this notice.
For visitors in the United Kingdom, Market Check Cars, Inc. acts through its registered UK establishment at 7 Bell Yard, London WC2A 2JR, United Kingdom. That establishment is the contact point for UK privacy requests and complaints.
Contact details are in section 16.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide. Name, business email, phone number, company, role and anything else you submit through our contact, demo, sample data, support or newsletter forms, and billing details when you purchase services.
Information collected automatically. IP address, the country we detect in order to show you region-appropriate content, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring and exit pages, and interactions on the site. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies, which are listed in full in section 4.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information, and we do not knowingly collect information from children (section 9).
3. How we use your information
To provide, operate and improve our products and services; to respond to enquiries and requests; to process transactions and billing; to send service messages and, where you have agreed or the law otherwise permits, marketing; to measure and improve the performance of the site and our campaigns; to keep the site secure and prevent fraud and automated abuse; and to meet our legal obligations.
The legal basis for each of these, where a legal basis is required, is set out in the United Kingdom and European Economic Area sections.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
4.1 How consent works here
When you first arrive, a banner asks whether you accept non-essential cookies. It offers Reject All and Accept All with equal prominence, one click each, and a Customise option that lets you decide category by category. Every non-essential category is switched off until you turn it on. This applies wherever you are in the world, and we do not treat continued use of the site as consent.
Non-essential cookies and scripts are not loaded at all until you consent. If you choose Reject All, nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookies in the table below is set, and no analytics request is made.
Before you make a choice, the only third party your browser contacts is CookieYes, which provides the consent banner itself and is listed as strictly necessary below. Depending on where you are, our interactive map either loads automatically on pages that show it, in which case your browser also contacts Mapbox, or loads only when you choose to open it. Google reCAPTCHA is contacted only when you start filling in a form. Everything else is served from our own systems until you decide.
We use Google Consent Mode v2 in its basic configuration, which means Google’s tags are not loaded at all while consent is denied.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through Cookie Settings in the footer of every page. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent, and takes effect immediately.
4.2 Cookies we use
Strictly necessary. Required for the site to work. These cannot be switched off, including the one that records a refusal, because without it we cannot remember that you refused.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
| cookieyes-consent | Records your cookie choices so we can honour them and not ask again on every page | 1 year | CookieYes, first-party |
| mc_geo_country | Stores the country detected from your connection, so we can show you region-appropriate content and apply the right privacy rules | Session | MarketCheck, first-party |
| __vdpl | Set by our hosting platform so you are served a consistent version of the site while you browse | Session | Vercel, first-party |
| _GRECAPTCHA | Set by Google reCAPTCHA when you use one of our forms, to tell people apart from automated abuse | 6 months | Google, on Google’s own domain |
Analytics. Only set after you consent to the Analytics category.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes one visitor from another | 400 days | Google Analytics 4, Google LLC |
| _ga_* | Maintains session state for our Google Analytics property | 400 days | Google Analytics 4, Google LLC |
That is the complete list. If we add a cookie or a third-party service, we update this notice before it goes live.
Advertising. We do not run any advertising or remarketing tags on this site, and no advertising cookies are set. If that changes, this notice will be updated first, and those tags will only ever run with your consent.
Our interactive map. The map is provided by Mapbox and is not loaded until you choose to open it. We show a static image until then, so nothing is sent to Mapbox unless you ask for the map. When you do open it, Mapbox receives your IP address in order to send the map to your browser. Mapbox also stores an anonymous usage ID in your browser’s local storage (see 4.3), which it uses only to count map loads in aggregate, not to identify or track you.
Forms. Google reCAPTCHA protects our forms from automated abuse. It is a security measure, it is loaded only on pages that have a form and only when you start using that form, and it is not loaded anywhere else on the site.
4.3 Local and session storage
| Key | Purpose | Storage | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| mc_utm | Remembers the UTM params across site navigation after cookies are accepted | Session storage | Current browser session |
| mc_gad | Remembers the GAD params across site navigation after cookies are accepted | Session storage | Current browser session |
| mapbox.eventData.uuid:* | A random ID Mapbox uses to count map loads in aggregate. Set only when you open the map | Local storage | Until you clear it |
| mapbox.eventData.uuidTimestamp:* | When that ID was created, so Mapbox can rotate it | Local storage | Until you clear it |
| mapbox.eventData:* | Records when map usage was last reported to Mapbox | Local storage | Until you clear it |
| mc_map_ok | Remembers that you chose to open the live map, so we do not ask again on this device. Written only when you tap the button on the map | Local storage | 12 months, or until you clear your browser data |
All other local and session storage keys are strictly functional. They are not used to identify you or to track or target you across websites.
4.4 Managing your preferences
Cookie Settings in the footer of every page, which reopens the preference centre.
Global Privacy Control, which we honour automatically (see section 10).
Your browser’s own controls. In Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Cookies. In Firefox: Settings, then Privacy and Security. In Safari: Settings, then Privacy. In Edge: Settings, then Cookies and Site Permissions. Blocking all cookies may stop parts of the site working.
Whatever you choose, your choice applies to the whole of marketcheck.com, including the regional sections at marketcheck.com/uk and marketcheck.com/eu. You do not need to make the choice again when you move between them.
5. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information for money.
| Recipient | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel Inc. | Site traffic, including IP address | Hosting and delivery of the site |
| CookieYes Limited | Your consent choice and a record of it | Consent management |
| Google LLC | IP address and site interactions, where you have consented. Form interactions, through reCAPTCHA | Analytics, and protecting our forms from abuse |
| Mapbox, Inc. | IP address, if you choose to open the interactive map | Map tiles |
| Calendly LLC | The details you enter when booking a meeting | Demo scheduling |
| Our customer relationship management, email delivery and support providers | Form submissions and contact details | Responding to enquiries, support, and marketing where you have agreed to it |
We also disclose personal information where the law requires it, to enforce our terms or protect our rights, users or the public, and in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
Some analytics activity may count as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under US state law. It does not take place unless you have consented, and you can opt out at any time (United States).
6. International transfers
MarketCheck is based in the United States, and personal information collected through this site is processed there.
Where personal information is transferred from the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area to the United States or elsewhere, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including the UK and EU Standard Contractual Clauses together with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum where applicable. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards that apply, using the contact details in section 16.
7. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this notice, or for as long as the law requires, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Enquiry, demo and sample data form submissions | While we are dealing with your enquiry and for as long as there is an active business relationship, then for a limited period for our records |
| Newsletter subscriptions | Until you unsubscribe, after which we keep a record of the unsubscribe itself so that we do not contact you again |
| Customer and billing records | For as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep them |
| Consent and opt-out records | For as long as we need them to prove that we honoured your choice |
| Cookies | The duration shown for each cookie in section 4 |
You can ask us for the retention period that applies to your own information, using the contact details in section 16.
8. Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls that limit staff access to those who need it.
9. Children
This site is a business service and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. United States
This section applies to residents of US states with consumer privacy laws, including California.
Your rights. To know and access the personal information we hold about you. To delete it. To correct it. To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, including for cross-context behavioural advertising. To limit the use of sensitive personal information, though we do not collect it for those purposes. And not to be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.
How to opt out. Use Your Privacy Choices in the footer of every page, or Cookie Settings to switch off the Analytics category. Either route takes effect immediately and we keep a record of it. You do not need an account, and we will not ask you for more information than we need.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out of the sale and sharing of your personal information and of analytics cookies. We apply it automatically, without showing you a banner or changing anything else about your visit, and we show you in the preference centre that it has been applied. If the signal later stops being sent, we do not treat that as you opting back in.
Making a request. Contact us using the details in section 16. We will verify your request and respond within the time the law allows. You may use an authorised agent. If we refuse your request you may appeal by replying to our decision, and we will respond to the appeal within 60 days.
Do Not Track. Browsers may send a Do Not Track signal. There is no common standard for responding to it, so we do not respond to it. We do respond to Global Privacy Control, as described above.
11. Canada
This section applies to residents of all Canadian provinces, and we apply the Quebec standard across Canada.
Technologies that identify, locate or profile you, and analytics, are off until you switch them on. The banner offers Accept and Reject with equal prominence, and the preference centre lets you turn each category on individually.
Your rights. To access the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to withdraw consent, to ask for your information in a portable form, and to make a complaint. You may also ask us to stop disclosing information or to de-index it where the law provides for that.
Person in charge of privacy. The person responsible for privacy at MarketCheck can be reached at privacy@marketcheck.com, or at the address in section 16.
12. United Kingdom
Market Check Cars, Inc. is the controller, acting through its UK establishment at 7 Bell Yard, London WC2A 2JR.
Your rights. Access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what was done before you withdrew it.
Our legal bases. Consent, for non-essential cookies and for marketing. Contract, to provide the services you ask for. Legitimate interests, for site security, fraud prevention and running our business, where those interests are not overridden by your rights. You can ask us for our assessment of those interests.
Complaints. Contact us first, using the details in section 16, and we will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk at any time.
Non-essential cookies require your consent here, including analytics, and nothing is pre-enabled.
13. European Economic Area
Your rights and our legal bases are the same as those in the United Kingdom section, under the EU GDPR.
Complaints. You may complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live, where you work, or where you believe the problem occurred.
Transfers of your personal information to the United States are covered by the safeguards in section 6.
14. Our developer portal
developers.marketcheck.com is a separate service with its own privacy notice, which covers the personal information you give it, your API keys, billing details and query logs. See the developer portal privacy notice.
Your cookie choices on this site and on the developer portal are recorded separately, so if you use both you will be asked on each. Agreeing to cookies on one never switches anything on for you on the other.
15. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice to reflect changes to our practices or to the law. We will revise the version number and effective date at the top, and where the change is significant we will say so on this page. When we add a cookie or a third-party service, we update this notice before it goes live.
